NEWBURY produced a shock in the Bolton At Home Sunday League Division One title race when they inflicted the second defeat of the season on Cattle Market.

While the Market men lie second, they have three games in hand on leaders Morris Dancers and are only three points behind.

Newbury climbed to third but have a lot of ground to make up if they are to trouble the top two, having played two games more than Cattle Market and are six points worse off. Chris Lyon, Aaron Walmsley and Gaz Bentley got the goals which closed the gap on the top two, with Matthew Carter grabbing both Cattle’s replies.

Hulton Wanderers dropped a place to fourth following a 3-1 defeat at sixth-place De Havilland.

In between them are Farnworth United who hammered eighth-placed Darcy Lever 9-0.

Aaron Monks scored four, Ant Harrison got two and Darren Ashworth, Mark Davies and Jay Knowles got the others.

In Division Two, Queen Lizzy remain fourth after a 4-2 victory at Astley Bridge.

Arron McCarthy grabbed a hat-trick and Tom Mann got the other goal for the winners with Dom Colqupitt and Dave Longworth scoring for Bridge.

The other Astley Bridge team, Elite, also lost, 5-3 to second-placed Heaton Cricket Club.
