Chris Hopwood hat-trick seals Hospital Cup for Hindsford against Stoneclough at the Reebok Stadium
Chris Hopwood scored a hat-trick as Hindsford won the Bolton Hospital Cup on Tuesday night.
They beat Stoneclough 4-1 at the Reebok Stadium to add the trophy to the Manchester League Premier Division title they have won for the third successive year and the Atherton Charity Cup they won on Monday night.
There was always going to be a new winners’ name on the Hospital Cup trophy as neither side had ever won the famous old competition which has been running since 1932.
Hopwood put Hindsford ahead in the 12th minute with a fine finish from the edge of the box to cap off a fast counter attack.
The Atherton side held the upper hand for much of the first half before their West Lancashire League Division Two opponents came back into it in the last 15 minutes before half time.
And they remained in the game until Hopwood poked in a pacey cross from close range on 73 minutes.
He completed his hat-trick five minutes from the end from the penalty spot.
And while Liam Marginson pulled one back with a great effort from the edge of the box a minute later – just two minutes after coming on – Hindsford had the last word with Paul Dickson excellent effort into the top corner two minutes into time added on.
Twenty four hours earlier, Hindsford won the Atherton Charity Cup on penalties against Ashton Town of the North West Counties League Division One after the game finished 1-1 after 120 minutes.
Five players started both that game and the Hospital Cup.
