Lowly Leek topple Daisy

WITH another raft of games postponed due to the weather, Craig Thomas could have been forgiven for wishing his Daisy Hill side had not managed to get their game on at Leek CSOB after the North West Counties League First Division’s bottom side ran out 2-1 winners.
Rick Morton opened the scoring for Leek a minute after the break, and while Ryan Chaisty levelled on 50 minutes, the home side got their noses back in front through a Karl Miller strike six minutes later.
The result left Daisy ninth in the table.
Elsewhere, Atherton Collieries’ match at home to the NWCL First Division leaders Abbey Hey was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, as was Atherton LR’s Premier Division game at Padiham, and Ramsbottom United’s third round home tie against Winsford United in the League Challenge Cup.
Radcliffe Borough put in a much-improved performance in their 1-0 defeat at seventh-placed Lancaster City in the Evo-Stik League One North.
The home side’s top scorer Daniel Hattersley got the only goal of the game on 61 minutes, poking in his 15th of the season after Boro failed to clear a corner.
Yet the scoreline only tells half the story, with the Stainton Park side having two penalties saved.
Lancaster keeper Martin Fearon was lucky to escape a red card after bringing Declan Fletcher down in the box, before palming away the Boro striker’s spot kick midway through the first half.
Fearon was called into action again late in the second half to stop Adam Kay’s penalty after Lancaster defender Jack Duggan had handled a goal-bound shot on the line.
Duggan was sent off but Boro failed to push home their advantage in the closing stages.
The result saw Boro drop one place to 17th.
