A BEN Wharton hat-trick helped Radcliffe Borough to a superb 4-1 win at Evo-Stik second-placed side New Mills in their penultimate league game on Wednesday.

Kevin Sanasy scored the other as Boro exacted revenge for a 3-2 home defeat to the same side eight days earlier.

The impressive victory moved Boro up to 15th and sends them into tomorrow’s final game against Goole in positive mood.

And after a difficult campaign at Stainton Park, boss Kevin Glendon wants to sign off on a high note.

Glendon said: “We are short on bodies again after some departures but we want to end on a high note. Apart from the last couple of home games, we have been doing well at Stainton Park.

“You always want to end with a win and that’s what we will be aiming for on Saturday.”

At the top end of the division, Boro’s neighbours Ramsbottom United need just a point at champions Skelmersdale United to secure a play-off spot in their debut season at Evo-Stik level.

A 2-1 victory over fellow promotion chasers Trafford last weekend means a point would extend the Rams’ campaign with the play-off semi-finals on Monday.

United could still go up if they lose, if one of Trafford and Mossley fail to win.
