EAGLEY ended their Tuesday night hoo-doo with a dominant display at Euxton Villa.

After three back-to-back defeats on Tuesday evenings, boss Phil Roberts called on his side to make a statement and record their second consecutive win. And, did they do it in style!

Sam Parkinson set the ball rolling in the sixth minute when he beat the offside trap and calmly slotted past the keeper.

Eagley looked strong at the back and were led by the central defensive combination of Simon Neary, Tom Darby and Gareth Carson.

They dominated the first half with attractive football as Villa chased the game.

Eagley extended their lead on the hour mark with a strike by Gary Whiteside.

Villa got back into the match with eight minutes left but Parkinson put the icing on the cake as they moved to the top of the table.

Parkinson’s free kick after 35 minutes was the only goal of the game on Saturday as Eagley beat Longridge.

In the same division, a patched up Tempest United side suffered heartache by conceding a goal in the last minute, losing 1-0 on the road at Thornton Cleveleys. Division One’s high-scoring specialists Bolton County lived up to their reputation with a 7-1 victory over Ambleside United.

In the same division, Turton lost 3-1 to Burscough Richmond.

Last Tuesday, an entertaining local derby between Stoneclough and Ladybridge took place.

A Danny Wharton brace was not enough for Stoneclough to get their second win of the season.

Jamie Desusa, Jake Pilling and Jordan Hussey sealed the points for Ladybridge. However on Saturday, a depleted Ladybridge fell to a late goal in a game they should have wrapped up in the first 30 minutes, their attack weakened by the absence of leading scorer Jake Pilling.

Ulverston took the half-time lead before John Smalley equalised.

Ladybridge went behind again before Danny Gore set up Kyle Dickson to finish with a superb volley from 25 yards. Ladybridge were overpowered in the last 10 minutes and it was no surprise when Ulverston got the winner.

Stoneclough hit the back of the net three times against Furness Cavaliers. However, they had nothing to show for their efforts as they went down 5-3.

CMB had to settle for a point, drawing 2-2 at home to Todmorden.
