MARK Battersby scored all four goals – including an injury-time hat-trick – as Atherton Collieries reached the first round proper of the FA Vase on Saturday with a 4-1 victory over AFC Liverpool.

Daisy Hill also got through their second qualifying round tie in a nine-goal encounter at home to Albion Sports to put them into the hat for today’s first round proper draw at Wembley.

It was a good scalp for North West Counties League First Division high-flyers Colls, with their Merseyside opponents in the division above.

Battersby struck the first of his four goals on seven minutes. The lead only lasted nine minutes as Liverpool striker Ryan Cox tapped the ball into the net from close range after some good wing play.

Colls’ superior fitness levels showed in extra time when Battersby scored three more times.

Daisy Hill also came from behind, Alex Cusack giving Albion Sports the lead on five minutes.

Chris Cummins equalised for Daisy before Craig Naylor’s 41st-minute strike handed them a half-time lead. Brice Tiani levelled before Albion conceded a penalty which Jordan Hussey converted.

Andrew Buckley scored 15 minutes from time to put Daisy Hill 4-2 ahead, but the visitors scored twice to bring the scores level late on.

With the match looking to be heading for extra time Scott Winstanley scored a dramatic winner late in added time.

Atherton Laburnum Rovers claimed a point in their First Division clash at promotion-chasing Cammell Laird.

Joe Evans scored for Lairds on 17 minutes before Jon Stephenson equalised seven minutes later. The result sees LR remain in eighth place while Lairds knock Colls off top spot having played four more matches than the Alder House side.
