BORO are still without an away win this season after narrowly going down to high-flying Spennymoor Town.

It was a new-look Radcliffe with freshly installed manager Danny Johnson and his assistant Wayne Goodison introducing seven new players to the starting line-up and the performance was vastly improved from the previous week's defeat to Ossett Albion.

Boro started well with debutant Sam McMahon's shot needing to be pushed away for a corner by Spennymoor goalkeeper Adam McHugh after just 30 seconds.

Captain Danny Lafferty then fired over from the resulting corner before two more debutants combined when Vinnie Mukendi shot across the face of the goal after Clevon Beadle ran from the half way line and crossed.

Chris Cheetham then took centre stage in a 10-minute period when the keeper first had to be quick off his line to deny Liam Henderson after 20 minutes then took a very difficult cross to cut out danger on the Boro goal before making his second penalty save in as many games.

Dean Hope brought down Robert Briggs just inside the penalty area in his first appearance for the Stainton Park men and but Cheetham turned Spennymoor skipper Joe Tait's effort around the post.

Tait made amends from the resulting corner, however, when he squeezed in a header at the far post.

There were chances at both ends after the break when Spennymoor's Henderson headed wide from 10 yards and Beadle saw an effort tipped over.

Mukendi thought he had equalised only for the goal to be ruled out for a foul.

But Boro were level on 68 minutes when substitute Matthew Davies scored on his debut when he headed home Mukendi's cross from 10 yards. Spennymoor were back in front six minutes later, however, when Paul Johnson was allowed a free header from a free kick.

Borough peppered the home goal in search of a leveller late on.

Dave Sherlock went close with a 30-yard free kick, Richard Smith headed across the face of goal three minutes from time, and Bevan Burey almost earned his side a point in the 90th minute when his shot was blocked two yards from goal with the keeper beaten.

Boro: Cheetham, Brown, Woods (Burey 85), Lafferty, Smith, Lambert, Beadle, Hope (Davies 60), Mukendi, McMahon, Vanglis (Sherlock 67). Subs not used: Wedge and Cook.

Boro are at home to Warrington Town next Saturday.
