Blackwell stays silent after weekend tirade

KEVIN Blackwell decided not to face the press following last night's 2-0 win over Stevenage after blasting a section of the Bury fans in the aftermath of his side’s defeat to relegation rivals Colchester at the weekend.

Chants of “Blackwell out” reverberated around Gigg Lane at the final whistle on Saturday after 10-man Colchester hung on to condemn the Shakers to their sixth defeat in seven matches.

The backlash prompted the Bury manager to launch a passionate defence of his own position, while he also called for more common sense from supporters.

“The crowd turned on me – yes - that always happens when you are a manager and you’re team is losing,” said Blackwell on Saturday, who argued the club’s financial problems and subsequent transfer embargo had made his job almost impossible.

“I’m not a magician.

“Can’t everybody see that the club isn’t flush with cash and blessed with options?

“I take the fans for being a bit smarter – maybe they’re not.

“But if I see a window cleaner come here with a short ladder, I realise he can’t do the top windows.

“It’s common sense and I just think that common sense is lacking here.”

The anti-Blackwell chanting was absent from Gigg Lane on Tuesday night as Bury hauled themselves off the bottom of League One.

The result will have gone a long way to quelling fans’ anger on the night, but the Bury boss may have hoped his message from the weekend had also hit home.

“Do you think I’m happy? Of course I’m not happy,” Blackwell said on Saturday.

“Do you think I want to have to deal with what I have to deal with? Of course I don’t.

“Who wants to go to work and know they can’t do the job they want to do?

“But someone has to do it and I’m giving it a good go.

“Things are out of my hands and I agree with some of the frustrations of the fans.

"But do you think I’m not frustrated?

“Is it my fault that they are in an embargo? No.

“Is it my fault that they had no money when I came here? No.

“For goodness sake, grow up, smell the coffee and let’s have a look at the facts.”

Of course Blackwell dodged the media after the win over Stevenage,he must have known that the majority of the questions would be about the difference Sodje's presence brought to the defence.Blackwell couldn't even claim credit for the recall,Sodje declined to extend his stay at Barrow, returned to Gigg and basically dared Blackwell not to pick him.If Blackwell had shown common sense and recalled Sodje after Zubar was injured at Notts who knows we might have earned six, seven or even nine points from the eminently winnable fixtures against Crawley,Pompey and Colchester.Instead Blackwell preferred to make his childish point, attempted to blacken the reputation of Sodje(and Hughes) and nine points were thrown away.Although three points last night were welcome the victory felt like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

What about last nights crowd, just under 1400.

May be the board will wake up and see how bad things are, but i doubt it.

Did'nt go last night due to work commitments, and i doubt i will be at gigg again this season. At this moment in time i am totally disallusioned with football and Bury FC and the way the club is being run in to the ground. We cannot blame KB for the clubs lack of money(and it sounds like he was kept in the dark about the clubs financial situation when he took the job on), so lets start afresh next season, new manager, new board.

Great comments from nomore!! I would like to add the following.

I am not surprised at all by KB's silence. This is a "psyc" tactic to the fans. However, although Bury FC fans are not huge in numbers, we are no dummies. STAY SILENT....it means NOTHING to us. Actually, stay silent for the balance of the games, and even if the miracle happens, PLEASE LEAVE.

You are NOT the right person for this club. I supported you for months, giving you the benefit of the doubt, but the last 3-4 weeks I see you for what you are. An egotistical, self serving, single minded individual. You may pull off the impossible, but most fans are NOT behind you at all.

Math shows we could stay up and actually we have gained 2 points in that goal whilst others continue to lose. However, we ask you to leave and let this club heal and rebuild.

I`d only add one further rhetorical question to Blackwell`s diatribe above:
"Is it my fault that we played too many games with an inexperienced, makeshift central defence?"

There is just one question about last saturday that I would like Kevin Blackwell to answer as I am too thick as a mere supporter.
Why did you tale off the best player with only 5 minutes to go. Hence the crowd shouting "you don't know what you're doing"

easylife, even with five minutes to go against Colchester the game was not necessarily lost,it only became lost when he took off Joner our most dangerous player and replaced him with the terminally useless fat boy Healy, whom many fans believe to be the first signing in the club's entire history.
