TOPE Obadeyi is sure to be an interested observer when his parent club Bury take on current paymasters Plymouth Argyle at the weekend.

The flying former Bolton Wanderers and Rochdale forward, who is not eligible to play on Saturday, has made a big impact at the Devon club since he was loaned out by Kevin Blackwell.

But new Shakers boss David Flitcroft, who Obadeyi worked under during a loan spell at Spotland, has scotched any hopes Argyle may have of making his deal permanent.

“I must admit I am scratching my head as to why a player of Tope’s pace and quality is not available to me at this football club,” he said.

“How and why I am not able to utilise him this weekend is beyond me.

“Under the terms of his deal I am not able to bring him back early, but he is definitely in my future plans for this football club.”

Flitcroft confirmed that he will be assessing all of the players currently out on loan before making a decision on their future in the new year.

A more pressing concern, however, will be to assess the fitness of Tom Soares, who is back training but rated as doubtful after picking up a hamstring strain in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Northampton.

The new Bury boss has asked for patience from the fans ahead of this weekend’s trip as he bids to bring his own brand of passing football to the team.

“All of the players here have been recruited to play a direct and territorial style of football, the complete opposite of the direction I want to take them,” he said.

“The problem is that they don’t keep the ball well enough. We don’t look to keep the ball. It’s not been part of the everyday training programme.

“So we are quite some way off where I need to be but I am sure, over time, we will get there.”
