BRIAN Jensen celebrated signing a contract extension at Bury by helping them to a clean sheet in their impressive 3-0 win at Hartlepool United yesterday – and then refused to dismiss their chances of promotion.

The 39-year-old goalkeeper, who will remain at the JD Stadium until at least the end of the season, admitted he would love to finish his career at the club and go out on a high.

“I would love to have a promotion with this team and this football club,” he said after another all-action performance that belied his years.

“The chairman (Stewart Day) has spent a lot of money here and he’s doing the right things to point us in the right direction.

“So for the club and for everybody it would be an absolutely massive achievement and something I would love with this team.”

After following up a 2-1 victory at home to York on Boxing Day to record their first back-to-back wins since November, 2012, Bury have jumped from second-bottom to 16th in the League Two table.

They are still only five points clear of the relegation places, and some 11 points adrift of the play-offs.

But Jensen has been enthused by the arrival of new boss David Flitcroft.

And with more recruits expected following the successful debuts yesterday of defenders James Burke, from Huddersfield Town, and Frederic Veseli, from Ipswich, the big Dane believes anything is possible.

“You never know whether promotion may come this season or the next,” Jensen added.

“But go on a good run and you will see.”
