A LOOMING fixture pile-up has left Bury manager David Flitcroft more determined than ever to attract the two loan signings he feels will complete his squad.

The Shakers’ last four scheduled away matches were all postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

One of those, against Accrington Stanley, has been rearranged for Tuesday, while their match at Mansfield Town, which has twice been called off due to the weather, will now be played on Tuesday, February 25.

March looks to be the killer month, though, with Bury now facing a run of eight games in 29 days after their final outstanding fixture, at Torquay United, was pencilled in for Tuesday, March 18.

Those eight games include five on the road – at Cheltenham Town (March 1), Southend United (March 15), Newport County (March 25) and Northampton Town (March 29), on top of the trip to the Devon coast.

“The way the fixtures are panning out, our squad is going to be stretched to the limit, playing pretty much every Tuesday and Saturday all the way to the end of the season,” said Flitcroft.

“So it is important we get these players in.”

The number one target for the Shakers boss is a left-sided wing-back, although he would also like to add another centre-back, if he can ship out Nathan Cameron on loan.

“We are looking at players higher up the leagues who are potentially not going to figure with their parent clubs and we are tracking them all the time,” he said.

“We are only talking about a bit of fine tuning, but we are always looking for signings that will help the club to progress.”

If Flitcroft does manage to snare his targets, that will take him over the allotted number of loan signings - five - allowed on a matchday.

Bury already have four players on loan - Blackburn striker Anton Forrester, Tranmere forward Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, Ipswich defender Frederic Veseli and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Danny Mayor.

But the Bury boss believes he can manage any potential problems.

“If it is just a case of having to tell one player he will be rested on a matchday, then I am okay with that,” said Flitcroft.

“It is not a major problem, but with all these games we still have to play I am sure injuries and tiredness may take the decision out of my hands at times.”

At the time of going to press, Flitcroft’s loan search continued.

The Bury boss is, however, expected to make a couple of changes for tomorrow’s match at home to fellow strugglers Bristol Rovers, with Mayor due to return following suspension and striker Daniel Nardiello fit again after recovering from a hamstring strain.
