BURY have ended their long search for a left-sided defender after securing the services of Huddersfield Town player Jake Carroll.

The 22-year-old Irishman has played four Championship games for the Terriers and competed in the Europa League with League of Ireland club St Patrick’s Athletics.

His arrival on an initial 28-day loan marks the end of a six-week pursuit by Shakers boss David Flitcroft to recruit a specialist left-sided wing back, although he says the former Under-18s Republic of Ireland player can play in a number of roles.

“His versatility means he can play at left-back, left wing-back or left midfield and he has gained excellent reviews and plaudits from national media,” said a club spokesman.

“Jake’s pedigree meant his availability created a lot of demand from League One clubs for his signature, but after speaking with the manager his mind was made up that the JD Stadium was the right place to be.”

Carroll will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s trip to AFC Wimbledon at the start of a busy run of seven games during his four-week stay.
