BURY’S dramatic surge in form during February has earned the club two nominations in the Football League’s monthly awards.

David Flitcroft has been picked as one of League Two’s top performing managers, while Jim McNulty has been given the nod as one of the division’s star players.

The Shakers were unbeaten in February, winning three and drawing two, and McNulty was the stand-out defender of an impressive backline that conceded just two goals in their five matches.

“Switching between left back and central defence, the January arrival brought a stability to the Bury back four,” said the Football League judging panel of McNulty.

“Strong in the tackle, pacey and an accurate crosser, he displayed his skill in both boxes.

“David Flitcroft’s shrewd January acquisitions helped to bring about a dramatic transformation in performances and results.

“The Shakers went unbeaten, picking up 11 points from five games as they moved clear of the relegation zone.”

McNulty will be up against Rochdale striker Scott Hogan, York City defender Keith Lowe and Scunthorpe United forward Sam Winnall, while Flitcroft is in competition with Plymouth boss John Sheridan, Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder and Nigel Worthington, of York.

The winners will be revealed on Friday.
