I want to extend my Bury stay, says goalkeeper Brian Jensen

BRIAN Jensen has appealed for a new contract at Bury ahead of this weekend’s trip to promotion-chasing Scunthorpe United.

The big Dane, who turns 39 in June, has kept 14 clean sheets in 34 appearances since arriving at the end of August.

Jensen admits his initial aim was to put himself back in the shop window after a frustrating end to his 10 years at Burnley saw him play just four games in his final season.

But a successful first campaign with the Shakers has reinvigorated the former West Brom stopper and he is now eager to help his new club win promotion – if not this season, then the next.

“The old man can still do it. That’s always been my goal – to come here and show that I am still available,” he said.

“With not playing the last year, people could have been thinking I have been injured or I am maybe too old.

“The idea was to show everybody I’m not too old and I can keep going.

“Now I want to stay. I want to be part of this football club, but it’s up to the gaffer.”

The Bury boss, David Flitcroft, substituted Jensen at half time in a recent match at Southend United and was later critical of his kicking and distribution.

The experienced stopper was dropped for the next game at Torquay, but reinstated following a 2-1 defeat on the Devon coast.

“It happens in football. I have seen a lot of funny stuff, let’s just leave that one for now,” Jensen said of his brief time out of the starting line-up.

“For me, experience is massive in this game, so let’s see what happens.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing football again and that’s the main thing for me. At my age you can easily get lethargic, but I just want to play football – I love it too much to give it up, so why not do it here.”

Flitcroft has already said he will not rush into offering out any new contracts until the current season has run its course.

Bury are seven points outside the play-off places with five games remaining, but will probably have to win at Scunthorpe on Saturday to remain in the hunt for promotion.

Russ Wilcox’s side are second in the League Two table after going 25 games unbeaten, but the Shakers manager says his players will go to Glanford Park in confident mood.

“Certainly with five games left we are looking to win all our games. I want to finish with momentum,” he said.

“We have a good team and real togetherness, which is what Scunthorpe have got.

“We will certainly respect them because it is incredible what they have done, but we are a group going over there as one and we will have a hell of a go.”

Brian deserves a new contract, probably more than most at the club.....i personally think he's been great this season. So he kicked a few balls out of play....big deal. He's saved us more times than i care to remember this season and it'll be an absolute travesty if he's let go.

Believe me, there are certain players on that team that start week in week out that wouldn't play for my Sunday team.....Tutte being one. So Flickers, if you want to make a stance, mate or no mate, he's the one to be dropped, as he ain't had a good game for us yet.....and how many goals has our midfield maestro got this season?

Really hope it was a 1yr contract you gave him.

Go Shakie !! lol but your right The beast should be given a contract now for next season i think he has been Brilliant.!!.
On Tutte i think he has been a disappointment but i remember saying i think there was better players out there then Hussey well i don`t mind saying i was so wrong on that one" and hope we make every effort to sign him on long term. .so maybe just maybe Tutte may have some hidden quality`s which we have yet to see. so in flickkers we must trust and like i have said before on here out of all those he brought in one not so good is not bad !!

mammol,
I totally accept that not every signing is going to be a hit (Carroll's another), my gripe is that he starts Tutte every single match....yet game after game he continues to offer us absolutely nothing at all. Jensen kicks the ball out of play a few times and he gets the hook...baffling!!!

Your right Shakie and i admit Tutte would not get my vote in front of either Miller or even Soars who seams to be finally getting back to the player we know he can be.As for the beast well his job is a goalkeeper and he is by far good enough for the league we are in. So lets hope Flikkers signs him on !!

I wonder if the weight of expectation hangs heavy over tutte's shoulder's I mean he is a former dale player, yes I think he needs to be offloaded too.
