Bury sign Bournemouth goalkeeper Shwan Jalal

The Bolton News: Shwan Jalal Shwan Jalal

BURY last night confirmed the free transfer of former Bournemouth goalkeeper Shwan Jalal.

The 30-year-old Iraq-born stopper was signed up on a two-year deal after being released by the Dean Court club.

Jalal, who has made just under 300 first team appearances, made his name at Tottenham as a youngster and also had spells at Woking, Peterborough United, Morecambe and Oxford United.

He played a big part in the Cherries’ rise from League Two to the Championship but made just two first-team appearances last season, in a loan spell at Leyton Orient.

Just a shame that Charles-Cook isn't prepared to act as his rival and fight for his place.Instead he decides to turn down the club's offer and sounds out via his agent that it's time he moved on.i've got a funny feeling he will end up at Crawley Town.

To be honest Eileen, if Charles-Cook was good enough he'd seriously have pushed Jensen last season....yet he didn't, so i'm not too bothered about him going.

That said, i haven't got much faith in Lainton either, but this signing is a good one that should easy any fear we had about Lainton possibly starting. Jalal is a seasoned pro at this level with plenty of years infront of him, a good keeper that's been there and done it is just what was required....top signing.

As you said, the team's coming together nicely now and they're all on long contracts, so anyone who may attract any interest next season will command a fee.

Good work all round.

I can see why C-K would be reluctant to play second fiddle to our new goalkeeper and then be told he might have to play for an Irish team whilst only being offered a 6 month deal at Gigg lane as part of his development.Good luck to him and yes in all honesty if he did have the talent his agent states then he would have been our number keeper at some point last season. In his one and only game that he played the full 90 minutes he cost us dear with individual mistakes against the Gulls.
