BURY’S most experienced frontman Ryan Lowe believes hard work and unity will help turn around his side’s flagging fortunes at home to York tomorrow.

The Shakers are without a win in seven games, having scored just four times in six defeats and a draw since their last victory on November 8.

Manager David Flitcroft effectively threw down the gauntlet to his misfiring forwards after watching his side crash out of the FA Cup at Luton on Tuesday.

And Lowe, who has seven goals to his name this season but has not scored in his last eight appearances, accepted the challenge on behalf of his co-strikers.

“We know we need to score goals and be a bit more clinical in the final third,” said the 36-year-old striker. “We work on that in training and will hopefully put that right come Saturday.

“Sometimes you look at it and think ‘when is it going to turn around’ but we know we are working hard on the training pitch, we are working hard every day – video analysis, set-pieces, set plays, working around the box.

“We are all working together effectively and we will continue to do that.”

Lowe’s recent barren spell has followed a few weeks out for a hernia operation and has since struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting line-up.

Flitcroft started with new loan signing Hallam Hope, aged 20, and fellow youngster Danny Rose, 21, in defeat at Oxford last Saturday before starting with Lowe and Danny Nardiello, 32, at Kenilworth Road in midweek.

Hope is yet to get off the mark in four appearances since joining from Everton, while joint top scorers Rose and Nardiello, who have both scored eight goals this campaign, have only one apiece in the last seven matches.

Lowe says all four strikers share the responsibility and, whoever starts, they will be working together in search of that all important victory.

“Whoever plays they have got to give it 100 per cent,” he said. “The manager picks the team and you have seen that, with the squad we have got, we are capable of matching anyone in this league.

“We have just got to stick together, work hard and whoever the gaffer picks, then is up to him.

“Football changes on split seconds in games and we are looking for that to happen.

“Sometimes you need a little bit of fortune and hopefully our luck will change.”
