ENTRY to Bury's rearranged match against Southend United will be free, the club has announced.

The initial fixture was abandoned on Saturday after only seven minutes due to a waterlogged pitch and has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 21.

There was confusion after the game when vouchers were handed out to supporters leaving the ground offering free entry to home fans for the rearranged fixture and half-price entry to the away contingent.

"As a club, we would like to apologise for any confusion that may have occurred due to the abandonment of the Southend game last weekend," read a statement from Bury chairman Stewart Day.

"The situation was quite unique as it last happened nearly seven years ago and as such the communication on the day was slightly sketchy.

"At the same time, many fans did not want to stand around in the heavy rain waiting for any update.

"To summarise, and make the rescheduled game a lot easier to manage on the night, it has been decided that ALL entry to both home and away fans will be free of charge.

"There will be no need to produce any ticket or voucher and we welcome everyone to come and support the team."

Day estimates the abandonment will cost the League Two promotion chasers £9,000.

The statement added: "I would like to point out that many fans did not realise that no matter what happens on the day, as a club we still have the financial costs relating to the rescheduled game and will also be liable for the costs that Southend will incur for the extra travel.

"The total cost to the club for the abandonment could be as much as £9,000.

"As such it was disappointing that some fans decided to take extra vouchers and brag on some social media outlets that they had taken full advantage of the situation."

Any fans who attended the abandoned game and cannot make the rearranged fixture will be able to swap their ticket or voucher for a flexi ticket, allowing them entry to another one of the four remaining matches this campaign or a fixture next season.

A collection will be taken on the night of the Southend game, with the proceeds going towards Bury academy's trip to Holland in the summer for a tournament.

The chairman added a final message to the fans: "We would like you thank you all for the amazing support you give week in, week out and we still believe that promotion is in our control."

Bury go into their match at Cambridge United on Good Friday in fourth place in League Two, seven points outside the automatic promotion places but with a game in hand of the top three.
