THE decision not to televise Bury’s Capital One Cup tie at home to Premier League leaders Leicester may have been a blow to the club, but manager David Flitcroft is urging the town to embrace it.

Claudio Ranieri’s side have been the Premier League’s surprise package after winning their opening two league matches in some style.

And the Shakers boss is relishing the chance to lock horns with the in-form Foxes in the second round encounter at Gigg Lane on Tuesday, August 25. “It does (sound nice), a Premier League team here. I’m hoping it’s going to be rocking, I really am,” said Flitcroft.

“You have got the (Claudio) Ranieri effect, pitting our wits against someone who is as highly respected and regarded in the game.

“So it’s a good boost to the football club, without a shadow of a doubt and we are looking forward to that.”

Flitcroft admitted after guiding his side to a 2-1 win at Wigan in the first round that he wanted to repay his chairman by drawing a Premier League club at home.

He hoped a David v Goliath tie would attract the cameras and help boost the club coffers a week before the end of the transfer window.

But despite losing out on the extra exposure to Barnsley v Everton and Luton v Stoke, the Bury boss is keen to attract a bumper gate.

“We were hoping to attract one of the Premier League boys to maybe get a Sky game, again to showcase where we are trying to go,” he said.

“But let’s embrace the game against Leicester, which is a good game for us all to look forward to and one I know we can be competitive in.”
