BURY striker Hallam Hope has joined Carlisle United on a month’s loan as manager David Flitcroft attempts to "balance" his squad.

The 21-year-old forward has scored just one goal in 32 appearances since signing permanently from Everton in November last year.

He returned to Gigg Lane following a successful loan spell at the end of the 2013/14 season, when Hope rattled in five goals in eight games, including a hat-trick against Portsmouth.

After struggling to make an impact up front, Flitcroft had attempted to repackage the youngster as a wide-man, but admitted this week that had not worked out.

And the arrival of Chris Eagles looks to have hastened Hope's departure.

“We have allowed Hallam to go for an initial 28 days loan to Carlisle United," said Flitcroft.

"This will allow him to get in a rhythm of games as he has been a victim of the fine form of Leon Clarke, Tom Pope and Danny Rose.

"We are currently trying to balance the squad and I believe this loan will be of benefit to all three parties.”
