BURY Girls and Ladies moved back up to second place in the Division One North of the North West Women's Regional League after winning 6-1 at second-bottom side Kendal Town.

Shakers stopper Tess Duxbury had to be on her toes in the opening stages, making a superb, instinctive save from point-blank range following a corner to deny Kendal an opener.

The boggy pitch was proving to be a leveller, but after surviving a rocky start Bury slowly gained control of the match after Kristeen Ferenczi fired them in front.

Jordon Bailey, who had a hand in the opener, then set up Leah Tibbott with a perfect pass that she tucked away to send Bury into the break 2-0 up.

Kendal pulled a goal back early in the second half before Tibbott restored Bury's two-goal advantage.

She was forced to limp off shortly after scoring her second of the game, while Bailey and Sammy Smith also had to be substituted after picking up knocks.

Hulda Sigurðardóttir grabbed Bury’s fourth goal with a fortunate chip over the keeper before Ferenczi chased down a long pass to claim a well-deserved second of the game.

Substitute Louisa Ellison drew a foul in the box to win a penalty, which Lucy Golding converted for Bury's final goal of the afternoon.

The win moved Bury above Penrith on goal difference, although the Cumbrian side have four games in hand.

The Shakers now turn their attention to the quarter-finals of the Argyle Sports Cup. They travel to Division One South's second-placed side Merseyrail Bootle in the last eight on Sunday, kick off 2pm.
