LEE Clark is asking for more of the same as Bury prepare for a final-day relegation scrap at Southend on Sunday.

The Bury boss wants to follow up Saturday’s fine 3-0 win against Northampton with victory on the Essex coast, meaning no favours are needed from elsewhere to stay in League One.

The Shakers had hoped to be safe by now, but fourth-bottom Port Vale took the relegation battle into the final game after a late goal from ex-Wanderer Chris Eagles secured a vital 1-0 win at Walsall in midweek.

That victory pulled Vale back to within two points of 19th-placed Bury heading into the final fixture and a point behind Gillingham.

The Shakers’ superior goal difference means they only need a point at Southend, while the only way they could go down is if they lose and both Vale and Gillingham win, at Fleetwood and Northampton, respectively.

“Our plan was always to go to Southend and win the game, we want to win every game,” said Clark. “We understand we need to be resolute defensively and put in a similar performance to those that earned us a point at Millwall and Bolton.”

Southend boss Phil Brown will not be settling for a point either, with his side chasing a place in the play-offs.

The Shrimpers need to win and hope sixth-placed Millwall drop points.

Clark added: “There will, of course, be pressure on Southend too on Sunday but I’d love to swap with Phil Brown and be in his position to be challenging for the play-offs, no danger.”

Brown, meanwhile, is under no illusions that Eagles’ late goal on Tuesday night will make the task that bit harder for his own side.

“I don’t know how the midweek result will have affected them, but Bury are obviously under more pressure now and there’s a lot more at stake for them,” said the former Wanderer.

“I’m purely focusing on our performance and what we have to do but it does mean they’re not going to be on the beach.

“I would imagine it would also mean they’re going to bring more fans, which is going to add to the atmosphere and that can only be a good thing.

“There’s a lot on the game for both of us now.”
