BURY are working on a deal to bring Oxford United striker Chris Maguire to Gigg Lane.

The 28-year-old underwent a medical at Carrington yesterday before discussing terms on a two-year contract.

Maguire scored 17 goals last season as he helped the Us finish eighth in League One, but decided against extending his contract, which expired at the end of the year.

His expected arrival follows the return of Nicky Ajose on a season-long loan from Charlton.

The two forwards will bolster Bury’s attacking options following the departures of James Vaughan and George Miller, to Sunderland and Middlesbrough, respectively.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old midfielder Tsun Dai has penned a three-year deal after impressing in pre-season, including in matches this week against Huddersfield and Macclesfield.

The Hong Kong-born youngster signed his first professional contract in May and his stay is now extended until 2020.

“Tsun is another top young talent,” Clark told Bury Times. “He has been one of the outstanding performers in pre-season and it is thoroughly deserved. We have been delighted with him. He is a great technician and has a fantastic attitude.

“He is in most days doing his own work. Even when we asked him to play 30 minutes out of position at right-back against Macclesfield he did so superbly.”

Dai is expected to be in the squad to face Crewe at Gigg Lane on Saturday.

After three straight defeats in pre-season, Clark is now looking for results to improve, starting with this weekend’s match.

Clark said: “The past three games have been about getting minutes into legs, now it will be about performance and results. We will be looking at the tempo, build-up play and overall performance of each player.

“We have to start pushing forward towards the league campaign and getting 90 minutes into most players.”
