BURY have named former Everton midfielder Joe Parkinson as assistant to manager Chris Lucketti.

Parkinson was a prominent member of the ‘Dogs of War’ Everton side under Joe Royle, and was a key part in the side that beat Manchester United in the 1995 FA Cup Final.

In total, Parkinson made 105 appearances for the Toffees, scoring four goals.

In November 1999, at the age of just 28, he was forced to retire after a recurring knee injury.

Such was his contribution to Everton, he was given a testimonial against Manchester City in 2000.

He went on to coach with former club Wigan Athletic, spending four years at the club before leaving in 2016.

Lucketti told the Bury FC website: “I am delighted to have Joe on board. "He’s a great character to be around, and I know that the lads will thoroughly enjoy working with him.

"Joe has a great knowledge of the game."
