Shakers hitman promises to deliver Mor goals

ANDY Morrell has promised Bury supporters he still has plenty to offer.

The 34-year-old striker scored nine goals in his first season at Gigg Lane after arriving from Championship side Blackpool.

The former Wrexham and Coventry star has scored goals throughout a distinguished career in the lower leagues, and he believes he will continue to be a thorn in defender’s sides next season.

“I played a lot more games than I was thinking I would last season,” said Morrell. “I’m pleased with that but I am a little disappointed with my goals return.

“I always want more goals, but I have got another season left on my contract and I’m sure I will be firing on all cylinders again with a good pre-season under my belt.”

Morrell believes there are a number of players in the Bury dressing room that have a bright future in the game, and he hopes he has been able to pass on some of his experience over the course of his time at Gigg Lane.

“There are some very good youngsters here that played a lot of games last season,” said Morrell.

“The manager has done really well, so we need everyone to stay together and, with a few more additions, we can keep moving on.

“I think there are players here that can play at a higher level — some players will find it easier, people like Michael Jones who would get more time to play. David Buchanan played every minute of every game last season and that is a great testament to a young player.

“He has been different class in his new position, but a lot of the players stood up to the plate last season and been counted when they were needed.

“We are defensively sound and we create chances so that makes a good team.

“As long as we continue to create chances, the strikers will get goals.”
