Shakers’ new strip rolls back years

THE Shakers have gone all retro to celebrate their 125th birthday this season.

The players will wear a home kit resembling the one their predecessors ran out in back in 1887, and it consists of white shorts and chocolate and sky blue halves.

The away kit is a reincarnation of the one used in 1892/93 with navy blue shorts and red and white striped shirts.

The new strips have been welcomed by Bury Council, the club’s main sponsor, which has backed the club financially since 2002 and earlier this year announced a new three-year sponsorship deal.

Councillor Bob Bibby, leader of Bury Council, said: “Our continued sponsorship of Bury FC is a great deal all round – the club benefits financially, while their work to promote sport in the community is a key part of our drive to improve the borough’s health.

“A few short weeks ago, the Shakers came agonisingly close to gaining deserved promotion. We're all fully behind them again this season in what is a historic year for the club – let’s hope the new kit makes all the difference!”

The away kits are available to buy in the club shop from July 18 and the home kit from August 8. No prices have been released yet.

lForever Bury are hosting a family fun day at Gigg Lane on Sunday, July 12, between 1pm and 4pm. Manager Alan Knill and his first team squad will be in attendance and there will be free competitions, a treasure hunt and a five-a-side tournament for junior teams.
