EFE Sodje is hoping some of the magic of the FA Cup is sprinkled over Gigg Lane this season.
The Shakers visit Aldershot on Saturday in a tough-looking first round clash, but they are just two victories away from a possible third round tie with one of the Premier League’s big guns.
“The FA Cup is still special,” said Sodje. “I still remember getting to the fifth round with Crewe and we drew with Everton. Fingers crossed it is Bury’s turn to go on a run this season.
“It is going to be a tough game at Aldershot, they do knock it around a bit, but we have got to look at it as just another three points.”
The last two meetings between the sides at the Recreation Ground have produced 11 goals, but Sodje believes both teams will be stronger at the back this time around.
“I think it will be a tighter game this time,” said the 37-year-old defender. “We are going there to win again.
“We didn’t defend properly a few weeks ago (when Bury won 3-2) and if we defend well we are capable of nicking a goal.
“If we perform well, the people up front can do the job for us.”
Meanwhile, Bury’s youth team crashed out of the FA Youth Cup to Macclesfield on Tuesday, losing 2-0 at the Moss Rose.
