Brooks making his mark in Borough strikeforce

TOM Brooks says he does not mind where he figures in Radcliffe Borough’s starting line-up.

The 19-year-old former Bolton Wanderers player is making his mark up front for the Stainton Park men with six goals this season.

But, after a spell in and out of the side, his main priority is just establishing a regular place in the side.

He is a key member of a Boro squad which has got off to one of their best starts in their UniBond Division One North campaign for years.

And he underlined his value to the Stainton Park outfit with a starring performance at Harrogate Railway Athletic on Saturday when he scored his sixth goal of the season.

The Stainton Park squad has been decimated by injuries and suspensions, and Boro went to North Yorkshire looking for their first win since the victory over Mickleover Sports in the FA Trophy on October 3.

Brooks scored the goal which put Boro ahead on 62 minutes after team-mate Ben Manning had pulled them level with a sublime strike before half-time.

They were 15 minutes from taking all three points, but Zephaniah Thomas came off the bench to bring the score back to 2-2.

“I had a spell out of the team recently,” said Brooks. “But early season, I thought I played well.

“I seem to have established myself in the team as a forward.

“I feel like I can score from most positions. I’ll play wherever I can as long as I’m playing.

“We were unlucky not to get three points. It was a lack of concentration at the end. But we’ve got to take the positives out of the game and use them in the next game. And we’ve got to keep believing in ourselves.”
