Barry-Murphy backs Bury to tame the Shrews

BRIAN Barry-Murphy believes Bury’s fantastic away record proves they are one of the better teams in League Two.

The Shakers have the best record on the road of any team in the division, and the common perception is that Alan Knill’s men are adept at soaking up pressure and hitting on the break.

And, while Barry-Murphy accepts there is some truth in that opinion, the Shakers midfielder believes there is more to Bury than just being able to catch teams out with a sucker punch.

“As an away team people suggest we are well suited to getting results because we sit back and counter attack, but I think we are quite attacking,” said the 31-year-old Irishman.

“We do have players who are good at playing on the break, but it’s a myth that we only play on the break. If we play to our ability we can dominate games anyway — home or away.”

Bury visit The New Meadow tomorrow looking to extend their nine-match unbeaten run, but Barry-Murphy believes it will be a tricky encounter.

“I haven’t seen much of Shrewsbury this season but I know they have lost a couple of players, including Grant Holt, and any team would struggle to replace him,” he said.

“But they seem to be doing quite well and they are in a similar position to where they were last season.

“I don’t think there was too much between us when we played them last season. I think our away form has been good and we have to be confident.”

Knill’s men could be boosted by the surprise return of David Worrall, who came through training unscathed yesterday after a month on the sidelines. He could be thrown straight into the starting line-up against his former club.
