Angry Bury boys bid to bounce back

ALAN Knill has told Efe Sodje and Stephen Dawson to take their frustrations out on Chesterfield after the pair clashed at the final whistle of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Shrewsbury.

Having led for the majority of the clash at The New Meadow, slack defending at the back allowed Paul Simpson’s men to earn a point in the fourth minute of extra time.

Tempers flared as the players left the pitch with Sodje and Dawson exchanging some harsh words.

Bury boss Knill was, however, pleased to see the passion his players have for the club.

“They were still going in the dressing room,” said Knill. “But I told them that I like it.

“I have been in dressing rooms where nobody says a word, and I prefer it when it hurts the players.

“We thought we had three points and we only came away with one and the lads were not happy with it. I like that reaction a lot.

“I wouldn’t stop it unless they’re throwing punches but it never got to that.”

Sodje believes there are no hard feelings between himself and combative Irish midfielder Dawson and is looking forward to joining forces with his skipper tonight.

“We were disappointed because we worked hard and it feels like a loss for us,” said the 37-year-old former Nigerian international.

“We had words at the end, but that’s football. You end up taking it out on anybody.

“It’s all history now and we have shaken hands. You want that passion — when you have played so well and only got a draw, everyone is always going to be fired up and upset.

“A few things were said but it’s all done and dusted now. We have to wait until the next game to put it right now.”

Loan striker Daniel Nardiello, who has scored two goals in as many games since joining from Blackpool, will again link-up with Andy Morrell and Knill would be delighted to keep him longer than the initial one month deal he signed on for.

“If he keeps scoring I will continually look at it but it’s really only an option for the board,” said Knill. “We were short of players and desperate for strikers and Nardiello has done really well.

“But he comes at a cost. It’s not a great cost considering the quality of player he is, but it’s still a lot for our football club.

“Obviously I would like to keep him because anyone who can score goals is a great asset for us.

“But it always comes down to finances.”
