SHAKERS defender David Buchanan has called for his side’s misfiring strikers to take out their frustrations on basement side Darlington tonight.
Promotion-chasing Bury have failed to score from open play in more than 450 minutes but they have the perfect chance to get back on track against a Quakers side that has shipped 64 goals in just 31 games.
Steve Staunton’s men have won just one game on the road all season and, while Buchanan insists the North East outfit will not be taken lightly, he is confident of a crucial victory.
“We are creating plenty of chances, which is a positive, so hopefully somebody is going to get a hiding over the next few games,” said the 23-year-old.
“We just have to keep going because we know we have got quality in the team and goalscorers with proven records.
“It is important that when we are not scoring we continue to keep clean sheets and make sure we don’t lose the game. There were times at the start of the season when the lads at the top end were putting the ball into the net and we were conceding too readily, so it is a team game and we are in it together — win, lose or draw.”
Buchanan, who is back in the starting line-up after Paul Scott was ruled out for up to six weeks with ligament damage, believes Bury should be pleased with their position in the league table and hopes they can now kick on.
“There are plenty of twists and turns left,” he said.
“But if people had said that, with 12 games to go, we would be in with a chance of automatic promotion I think we would have been happy with that.
“Now we have to turn draws into wins and keep pushing up.”
Alan Knill is expected to name an unchanged side for the clash.
