Bury move to tie up Picken

SHAKERS right-back Phil Picken is the latest of Richie Barker’s players to be offered an extended deal.

The 26-year-old former Manchester United trainee is out of contract in summer, and has been offered a deal which will keep him at Gigg Lane until 2014, in keeping with a number of other players.

Barker has succeeded in holding on to his prized assets in midfield – captain Steven Schumacher, Peter Sweeney and David Worrall – while Mark Carrington, who was contracted only until the end of January, will stay at least until summer.

Left-back Joe Skarz is also close to signing an extension to his deal, also until 2014.

“It will make my job easier, come March/April when I’m speaking to people, because I will have a good idea what I will have left,” said Barker.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s clash at derby rivals Rochdale, who beat his side 4-2 in September, and Tuesday’s trip to face League One leaders Charlton Athletic, Barker said: “All the form goes out the window in local derbies.

“Our fans were disappointed by our performances first time round, but, at the end of the day, you still only get three points for it.

“It will be an enjoyable atmosphere and it will be great to go there on the back of what we’ve been achieving at the minute.”

Come on Joe and Phil you know it makes sense sign up for another 2 years.I noticed that we have won more than double the amount of games that Fail have won against us on their own patch. That is very unusual it's like the stat you would expect to find when United or City play at Gigg Lane.

If our players are just going to turn up for the matches they want to compete in and think they can win then forget it.It's time to clear the decks and bring in players who have the appetite, committment
,passion, desire and strength of character to bring our club and football team to the next level. That performance against Rochdale needs to be a watershed for alot of these primadonnas.I knew the Giles Coke v Steve Schumacher incident would damage team spirit it was fo obvious. We are in a spiral of decline.Won't be re-newing my season ticket if we are relegated to league 2.Also i think Richie Barker has proved how naive he can be at times with his team selection. Why for heaven's sake do you keep chopping and changing your first X1?.I think it's time we appointed an experience manager like at Yeovil where Richie can take a back seat and learn,he just isn't experienced enough to be any use in this league.
