BURY midfielder Giles Coke has paid tribute to loan striker Lateef Elford-Alliyu who came on with three minutes left to save a point at Preston with an equaliser deep into stoppage time.

It looked like the Lilywhites were going to get a win they scarcely deserved following Chuks Aneke’s deflected opener, one of the few efforts on Trevor Carson’s goal at Deepdale.

But the Shakers refused to lie down, and the 19-year-old West Brom loanee fired home from close range after David Amoo’s shot from distance came down off Thorsten Stuckman’s crossbar.

“Lateef was probably disappointed not to be playing,” said Coke. “But he hasn’t moaned – he’s just got on with it. That’s what happens when you keep your head. He’s come on and saved the day.

“It’s a whole squad game and we need everyone from now until the end of the season.”

Bury entertain Ronnie Moore’s in-form Tranmere team on Saturday, and Coke predicts a difficult match, as every game will be in an end of season run-in that will see the Shakers trying to preserve their League One status.

They have not won for 13 matches, but confidence is high following two battling draws – both of which they were unfortunate not to win.

“All seven games we have left will be difficult,” said Coke. “They’ll be like cup finals.

“We always know that we can get a goal. It’s just a question of not conceding. In the last couple of games we’ve proved that we are more solid at the back and we’re not conceding, so if we can keep that up we are always confident we are going to get one at the other end.”
