The 2012 Olympics are in London, but the knock-on effect will reach all over the country, with Bolton hoping to benefit.

Bolton's first annual "Countdown to the Olympics" event took place in Victoria Square with the Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Walter Hall, above, launching balloons to mark the occasion in the first week of August.
