Leigh becoming part of Olympic dream

LEIGH has taken a giant leap towards becoming part of the Olympic dream.

The Leigh Sports Village has been included in the London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp Guide.

It means that the site could be used as training facilities by competing nations as part of their preparations for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, which will be held in London.

Wigan is one of the few places in the country to have facilities in the guide as the Robin Park Arena and Sports Centre is also included.

It is thought the centres will be used for a variety of sports, including athletics, badminton, basketball, football, handball, table tennis, volleyball and gymnastics.

Simon Toon, chief executive of Leigh Sports Village, said: "This is fantastic news for the whole borough. We have developed world class facilities at Leigh Sports Village and this will help put them under the national spotlight.

"Hopefully this news will also help to inspire more and more people to participate in sport locally and take advantage of the first rate facilities on their doorstep."

The only benefit that I can see, that the Ukrainian or even the Turkish Olympic Team will get out of using the sports facilities in Wigan and Leigh, is that they will get a good taste of what it is like to live in England, UK.

Then, when their countries join the European Union (EUSSR), they can come to live here in great numbers... Just like the Poles and the Czechs.

They might even get British jobs at the Leigh Sports Village and at Robin Park.
