BOLTON School Under-13s cricket team had a tight Twenty20 encounter with the MCC Hub team, which is based at the school.

The school team scored 104 all out, which proved enough to secure a narrow victory by six runs.

Michael Gibson was instrumental in the win, scoring 30 runs and then taking six catches and two wickets.

The MCC Foundation Hub for the North West has been basedrun at Bolton School for three years.

It has an entry group for Year 5s and Year 6s of primary schools, an intermediate group for U13s and an advanced group for U15s.

Much of the success of the hub is due to the energy and commitment of the coaching team, led by Mike Fletcher.

Lancashire County Cricket Club players Warren Hegg and Sajid Mahmood have lent their support and have contributed their experience and expertise to the course.

More than 100 children have passed through the hub since it started and during the tea break, awards were given by Susan Brealey the director of the MCC Foundation, to Marcus Haydock for being the U15s player of the year and Harris Akhtar was the U13s player-of-the-year.
