BOLTON Senior Colts kicked of their season with a 49-17 demolition of Stockport at Avenue Street.

Man-of-the-match Louis Townsend was prominent in organising the larger Bolton pack and a series of driving mauls allowed the backs space and Ben Sheelan touched down out wide for the first score.

Scrum-half Jack Robinson then scampered over from a five-yard scrum and after Stockport replied with a touchdown Bolton built up a 28-7 half-time lead with Cameron Barber and Will Brindle touching down.

Townsend got a yellow for an over enthusiastic tackle and Stockport scored and applied pressure only for a fine scrum break by Jack Robinson which led to a Harry Stockton score settled Bolton’s nerves.

Further tries followed for Barber and Will Lomax, the latter successful with seven out of seven conversions.

Bolton Junior Colts began their season with a 17-12 defeat at Heaton Moor Junior Colts.

Joe Partington did well early on when his tackle dislodged the ball as an opponent crossed the line.

Tom McCormick then stole the ball right on the goalline.

After a pressurised first 10 minutes the under-17s Bolton Reds, resplendent in their new kit, clicked into gear and Adam Kazmi delivered a probing kick to within 10 metres of the home line.

Partington went within a couple of metres of a score and a break from players’ man-of-the-match and captain Josh Holmes saw Connor Blades bundled into touch just short.

On the other wing, Joey Gore had a couple of good runs and looked dangerous in possession and his quick thinking gave Ryan McClusky space to get close to the Stockport side’s line after a 30m break.

Holmes appeared to break the deadlock with a scintillating break but the referee was unsighted and could not award the score.

Bolton were now firmly on top and great interplay between new recruit Charlie Aylett and Holmes saw Bolton go close and a quick throw-in by Blades and a brilliant run by Kazmi almost gave Partington a score but the half ended 0-0.

Bolton started the second period as they had finished the first and Tom Hill crashed over in the corner for the first score, but left himself too much to do with the conversion.

This stung Heaton Moor into action as they responded by going 17-5 ahead.

Bolton dug deep with Matty Ashton running strongly. Ryan McClusky went close before the Bolton backs gave the ball some air and quick hands saw Kazmi feed Partington to score. Tom Hill nailed the conversion from wide out.
