BOLTON Under-17s turned on the style to beat Liverpool St Helens 34-0 at Avenue Street.

Ryan McClusky blasted through the centre of the LSH defence to register the team’s first home try as Colts. Tom Hill added the extras.

Chris Brownlow deservedly notched the try which gave Bolton a half-time 12-0 lead after man-of-the-match Jordan Greenhalgh set him up.

Bolton’s superior fitness started to tell after the break and Joe Partington recorded a try.

A break into the visitors’ 22 saw Jacob Walker show his strength and determination to wrestle the ball and then burst clear to take the score to 24-0 with Hill’s conversion.

Firth Lord could have snatched a try after coming on but McClusky was in no mood to pass as he powered over in the corner to complete a brace.

Adam Kazmi finished off the scoring.

The senior Colts went down 48-22 at Anselmians in Ellesmere Port.

The Bolton scores were an opportunist kick and chase by Jack Robinson, a drive-over by man-of-the-match Cameron Barber and a snipe from Jack Robinson at point blank range after a storming Louis Townsend break was halted on the line.

The best try was started by a quick tap by Barber who put Robinson into space and a two-on-one with the full-back saw Robinson pass to Kieran Shacklock who ran 50 yards to score.

Bolton U14s ran out comprehensive 72-3 winners in the local derby with Eccles.

Joe Brookes scored a hat-trick in the first 10 minutes and, with Bolton’s forwards always on top, Alex Tonge and Jos Winstanley added further tries and conversions to leave the half-time score 26-0.

Bolton then ran in further tries from Winstanley, James Holland, Jack Byrne and captain Jordan Griffiths.

Charlie May was voted man of the match.

After a good pre-season, Bolton u13s lost to an impressive Eccles side who played some fantastic rugby.

Bolton were unable to trouble the scoreboard but there were notable performances from Owen Critchlow, Kynan Smith and Harry Moxham, while Addison Kennedy, Tim Greenwood and Benji Williamson could all be pleased with their debuts.

Anyone in school Year 7 who has started training for the Bolton Emerging Schools League are invited to try out for Bolton u12s. Training is on Wednesdays at 6.15pm and Sundays at 10.30am.
