MATTHEW Rimmer scored twice as Bolton's third team romped to an impressive derby victory at Bury 2nds in the North West League Division Five North/South.

The game was also memorable for goalkeeper Chris Sharrock who kept his first clean in around 40 league games.

A tense and goalless first half reflected the must-win nature of the game between the two lowly sides.

The visitors gradually gained a foothold and, with Umer Muhammed and Andy Hill impressive in midfield, began to dominate possession while Sean Carney was solid at the back.

Youngers Tom Chei and Joseph Gore came to the fore in defence in the second half as Bolton took command.

Rimmer had a couple of range-finder shots well saved before making the breakthrough with a trademark thunderbolt from a penalty corner following good work between Hill and Reece Greenwood.

He grabbed his second of the game five minutes later when he coolly slotted home a penalty stroke after Matthew Simpson had caused havoc in the D.

With the game seemingly wrapped up, Bolton were in cruise control and a well worked goal completed a fine performance when Hill slipped the ball through to Greenwood who fired low past the advancing keeper.

Bolton Ladies' first team leapfrogged Morpeth ladies 1sts into fourth place in the North League Division One with a 2-1 away victory.

With a bare 11 and a three-and-a-half hour journey in their legs, it was always going to be a difficult task against a side near the top of the league.

But Bolton rose to the challenge with the defence, and in particular Nat Clayton, outstanding.

Bolton took the lead before conceding before half time and then grabbed a dramatic late winner.

The men's 2nds went down 4-2 at home to Cheetham Hill 1sts in the North West League Division Four North.

Cheetham Hill took a two-goal lead before Adam Anwar's shot was deflected in by midfielder Damien Pearse to halve the arrears.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Cheetham Hill scoring two early goals again before Bolton worked their way back into the game.

Spells of good passing saw the visitors tested by Bolton's attack and Jon Woods pulled the score back to 4-2 when he calmly dispatched a penalty flick before a red card for the visitors added to hopes of a Bolton comeback.

Goals from James Beamish and Mark Woodard earned Bolton's fourth team a 2-0 victory over Prescot 2nds.

After wasting early chances, Bolton capitalised on their early dominance when Beamish calmly finished off a well-worked move from a penalty corner.

Prescot pushed hard for an equaliser and Chris Lord and Chris Williams had to stand firm in defence to keep the visitors at bay.

Bolton's more impressive hockey made them the more likely to get the next goal and Woodard duly obliged when he sealed the victory with a fierce shot across the keeper into the bottom corner at the end of a sweeping move.

With keeper Nathan Bolton in no mood to be beaten and making some excellent saves Bolton held out for an impressive win against a phyiscal and more experienced side.

Bolton men's 1sts' run of two straight wins in the North West League Division Two was ended by a 3-0 defeat at Lancaster University first team.
