FORREST F finally got their first points on the board with a 10-8 victory over third-bottom Sharples C.

And the Bolton Badminton League Section C bottom team had to come back from losing the first four games of the night heavily.

The stirring comeback got underway when the teams’ third couples met.

Forrest’s Ray Schofield and youngster Becky Greenfield –new to the game this season – won 21-12, 21-16 against Dot Scholes and James Woods – and the confidence spread throughout the team.

Linda Rigby and Andy Worthington then won the clash of the first first couples 21-17 and a hard-fought 22-20 against Carol Kerfoot and Steve Barry.

Going into the level doubles Sharples were 6-4 ahead, and their pairing of Scholes and Kerfoot easily won the first ladies’ game against Greenfield and Rigby 21-10, before the determined Forrest duo fought back to win a nail-biter 22-20.

Schofield and Worthington then kept Forrest in the match by winning the first pair of men’s games 21-17, 21-11 against Woods and Berry.

It was 7-7 going into the second pair of ladies' games and Forrest’s Greenfield and Ann Schofield won the first 21-13 before narrowly missing out when Scholes and Amy Larcombe won another nail-biter 22-20.

The result depended upon the last two men’s games and Forrest’s Schofield and youngster Joe Spencer kept their heads to win 21-14, 21-19 to end their team's run of 10 defeats out of 10 this season.

In B Section, fourth-placed Westhoughton B also won a close encounter 10-8 against Deane A.

Sam Robertson and Suresh Patel got sixth-placed Deane off to a good start with 21-12, 21-19 victories over Lisa Wintle and John Cole.

First couple Janice Jackson and Tony Wareing maintained Deane's winning start with a 21-19 win against Mandy Molloy and James Lawson who hit back to take the second game of their match 21-18.

Westhoughton’s Mandy Gow and Shaun Chadwick won two more games, beating Theresa Gough and Brian Strickland in the third couples' clash 21-18, 21-16.

The following four games were shared to leave the score 5-5 going into the level doubles.

In the first pair of ladies’ games the long-standing partnership of Gough and Jackson came to the fore when they won both their games comfortably against Gow and Wintle.

The first pair of men’s games was shared with Strickland and Wareing winning the first for Deane 21-19, and Chadwick and Cole taking the second 21-12.

With the game in the balance it was Westhoughton who produced the big finish with Gow and Molloy winning both ladies’ games 21-14, 21-19 against Gough and Robertson before Chadwick and Cole gave no quarter to take the final games 21-16, 21-18 against Strickland and Patel.
