BOLTON Lads and Girls Club pulled off an impressive 11-7 victory over Deane A in B Section.

BLGC are ninth in the section and Deane three places above them. But the former always had their noses in front and finished strongly to deny their opponents a draw.

BLGC's first couple, Meyuni Algama and Chris Saunders, won their first game against Jean Smith and Suresh Patel 21-16 with the latter pair hitting back in a close-fought second 24-22.

Emma Dean and Pranay Lad put BLGC ahead in the match with comfortable 21-16, 21-13 wins against Janice Jackson and Tony Waring.

The third couples shared their games, BLGC's Shileya Kamarth and Zaryab Khan claiming the first 21-16 and Samantha Robertson and Brian Strickland gaining revenge in the second with a 21-18 success.

Deane continued to come back into the match when Jackson and Waring took both first couples' games against Algama and Saunders 21-14 and 21-15.

The results were reversed when the second couples played, BLGC's Dean and Lad winning 21-12 and 21-15 against Smith and Patel.

Going into the level doubles BLGC were 6-4 up and they extended the lead in the first pair of ladies’ games when Kamarth and Algama beat Robertson and Jackson 21-13 and 21-18.

Deane’s Strickland and Waring reduced the deficit by winning the first pair of men’s games 22-20 and 21-14 against Khan and Saunders.

After the second pair of ladies’ games were shared – BLGC's Kamarth and Deane claiming the first 21-19 and Robertson and Smith taking the second 21-16 – it was down to the final pair of men’s games as to whether Deane would manage a draw.

But BLGC's Khan and Lad had other ideas as they claimed the first game 21-13 and a hard-fought second 22-20.

There was another fine result achieved against a higher-placed side when Forrest F met Moorside A in C Section.

Forest are down in 11th with their opponents up in fourth, but there was nothing to choose between the teams on the night.

The scene was set for a close match right from the first encounter when Linda Rigby and Andy Worthington, playing first for Forrest, shared their games against Sue Beamer and Alan Parkinson.

Rigby and Worthington won the first 21-16, and narrowly lost the second 21-19.

There was still nothing to chose between the teams after the next match when Moorside's number one pairing, Judith Standish and Matt Barton won the first 21-14 and Steph Hill and Jack Hamer, playing second for Forrest, took the other game 21-17.

When the third couples played Forrest’s Rebecca Greenfield and Ray Schofield put their side ahead with a nail-biting24-22 win in the first and a comfortable 21-14 success in the second against Jo Egan and Steve Gittins.

Moorside’s Standish and Barton brought their side back into it with 21-13 and 21-17 victories over Rigby and Worthington in the first couples' clash.

The match see-sawed back in Forrest’s favour when the second couples met, Hill and Hamer winning 21-18 and 21-16 against Beamer and Parkinson.

At 6-4 down Moorside’s ladies hit back with Egan and Standish winning 22-20 and 21-6 against Greenfield and Rigby before Gittins and Barton put Moorside ahead by claiming their men’s games 21-18 and 21-18 against Schofield and Worthington.

Now 8-6 ahead, Moorside were in the driving seat, and in the second pair of ladies’ games Egan and Beamer put them in a stronger postion when they took the first game very easily 21-8.

But Forest were not done yet and a determined Greenfield and Hill fought back to claim the second 21-12 before their team-mates Schofield and Hamer claimed both games in the final match of the night, 21-11 and 21-13, to earn their side a creditable draw.
