BOLTON wrestler George Ramm won his first ever senior gold medal at the English Open on Saturday, winning the 61k title in front of a home crowd at Smithills Leisure Centre.

The event, which also included the English Open junior championships, was hosted jointly by Bolton Olympic and Sharples Wrestling Clubs.

It proved successful for home wrestlers, with the two clubs amassing a total of 23 medals between them, including 11 gold.

Daniel Panczyszyn, aged 17, was the only other senior medallist, taking bronze in the 86k division, while Ryan Kay claimed silver at 60k in the juniors – for wrestlers aged 17-20.

The majority of the medals came from wrestlers in the youngest age group, which ranges from eight to 17.
