THE Bolton Badminton League finished the 2014/15 season with the Handicap Competitions finals this week.

Bolton Lads and Girls Club A team were first up at USN Bolton Arena taking on Sharples B in the Jane Fletcher Memorial Cup.

Emma Dean and Chris Saunders, playing first for BLGC, put their team on the score sheet and gained valuable points for their tally, by completing two good wins – 21-13 and 21-18 – against Amy Larcombe and Nick Hitchen.

Judith Stenson and Paul Bargh, Sharples’ first couple, then won both their games 21-17, 21-16 against Abi Edwards and Sana Ullah.

When the third couples met, BLGC's Meyuni Algama and Zaryab Khan dominated in both their games winning 21-16, 21-11, against Marian Anderson and Matt Duckworth.

When the first couples met each other, they shared their games. Sharples’ Stenson and Bargh took the first 21-12 and Dean and Saunders the second 21-15.

Sharples’ Larcombe and Hitchen won both their games convincingly – 21-13 and 21-8 – and put vital points on to their team’s tally, against Edwards and Ullah, when the second couples met.

Going into the level doubles it was 5-5 in games and Sharples were six points ahead and it was all about who could keep their nerve in the remaining games.

In the first pair of ladies’ games, BLGC’s Algama and Dean had two good wins – 21-15 and 21-13 – against Anderson and Stenson.

When the first pair of men’s games was played, Khan and Saunders won the first 21-13, and in a nail-biting second they came out on top to beat Sharples’ Duckworth and Bargh 26-24.

The second pair of ladies’ games was shared, Algama and Edwards taking the first 21-14 and Anderson and Larcombe the second, 21-15.

Sharples’ Duckworth and Hitchen then won the final games 21-18, 21-17, against Khan and Ullah but the final score was 351-320 for BLGC.

In the Robert Cup Smithills A took on BLGC B and Smithills’ Lorraine Shepherd and Malcolm Rolfe put their team on the score sheet with two comfortable wins – 21-8 and 21-12 – against Sam Sewart and Mohmad Hassen.

Smithills dominated in the mixed games dropping only one game.

When the third couples met they shared the points – Smithills Diane Leigh and Tony Sames taking the first, 21-17 and BLGC B Shreya Namath and Abi Ajay the second 22-20, but the youngsters had accrued vital points along the way keeping their hopes of winning alive.

The first pair of ladies’ games was shared. Namath and Abi Sewart won the first 21-15 and Leigh and Shepherd the second 21-10.

The first pair of men’s games was also shared, Ajay and George Butler winning the first 21-15, and Sames and Rolfe taking the second 21-19.

Smithills claimed the final four games of the night and fought hard to keep the opposition at bay, but it ended up 389-366 to BLGC to cap a good night for both their teams.
