BOLTON Mets suffered a 60-12 defeat away to Leigh East A on Saturday.

The result leaves Bolton winless in six matches, their only victory coming on the opening day of the season at home to Fitton Hill.

Mets now sit 10th in North West Men's League Division Three, one point above bottom side, Ashton Bears A.

Worryingly for Bolton, Ashton currently have three games in hand, and the sides are due to meet at the end of the month in a basement battle.

Ollie Ware – playing only his second game of the season following a nine-month lay off through injury – got on the scoresheet in the first half, diving in the corner to get Mets on the board.

Chris English doubled Bolton’s try tally with a solo effort from dummy half.

Ken Sackfield converted but the Mets went into half time 22-12 down.

Bolton were very much in the game at this point, and as demonstrated in the first half, could be clinical when presented with the opportunity.

But Leigh ground them down in the middle of the park and they began to tire.

Tackles that were made in the first half started to be missed and it opened the floodgates for Leigh who introduced fresh legs and ran in try after try.

The damage would have been greater but for the sterling efforts of full-back Michael Hargreaves who made a huge tackle to deny a certain try from a rampant Leigh side as they broke the Mets defensive line.

Mets host Blackpool Scorpions on Saturday when they will be hoping to swiftly avenge a 46-0 defeat two weeks ago.
