BOLTON Mets will target a much-needed victory in their bottom-of-the-table showdown with Ashton Bears A in their next game after losing their seventh game out of eight in North West Division Three.

The local lads suffered a 50-12 defeat away to second-placed Blackpool Scorpions on Saturday to leave themselves second bottom, one place and one point above Ashton who have two games in hand.

The two strugglers meet in their next game a week on Saturday.

Blackpool completed a quick double over Mets, having beaten them 46-0 at the start this month.

Blackpool's big, physical side were disciplined and well drilled and quickly took control to build a 20-0 lead midway through the opening half.

Mets thought they had got themselves on to the scoresheet following a slick passing move from midfield which was finished by Keith Stanley.

But the referee saw an obstruction in the build-up and chalked off the effort.

Stanley was key to the Bolton boys getting their first points on the board.

His forceful run gave Mets' debutant hooker Brett Robinson the chance to touch down his first try in Bolton red.

Ken Sackfield converted to make the score 20-6.

The Scorpions were determined not to let their lead slip further before half time and forced their way over two more times to end the half 32-6 up.

Bolton had only been able to name a squad of 15 for the fixture and it meant several men playing out of position.

But they continued to fight and got their reward when John Stryker side-stepped his way over the line, the effort again converted.

Blackpool turned the screw and went over several more times to make the score 50-12.

With just minutes remaining there was a worrying moment for Mets when Tom Everard took a blow to the head.

Everard was taken to hospital where a concussion was confirmed, but he was given the all-clear to return home.
