MORE than 60 riders from across the country have signed up to compete at the Gin Pit on Saturday in a special meeting to mark Astley and Tyldesley's 25th anniversary.

The club will be hosting five events, starting at 1.45pm with the junior individual race and culminating at 4pm with the main event of the day – the senior showdown.

Other races include the girls, under-10s girls and intermediate.

Riders, officials, volunteers and supporters from past and present are then invited to a attend a social evening to celebrate 25 years of cycle speedway at Astley and Tyldesley.

A&T will also host a Northern League fixture against Heckmondwike on Sunday, starting at 2pm.

Astley and Tyldesley’s leading young riders enjoyed another successful week cycle speedway circuit.

Reece Pollitt claimed victory in the under-17s Grand Prix A final in the third regional round of the British Youth and Junior League at Stockport on Saturday.

John White and Joe Quarmby made it a one-two for A&T in the u10s A final, while Max Quarmby finished second in the u8s A final.

A&T finished third in the team competition on 77 points behind top two Bury (126) and Sheffield (122).

Pollittt and White were also on top form as one of three A&T riders to race unbeaten in the Northern Junior League match.

Max Evans (u13s), Pollitt (u19s) and White (u10s) all scored 16-point maximums, while Joe Quarmby and Gareth Paine also posted excellent scores as A&T finished second out of five teams.

A&T were also in action at Hull on Sunday in the second round of the Northern Fours and Junior League series.

A solid team performance by A&T saw them take fourth place out of six teams.

Gin Pit hosted round two of the A&T Go-Ride Grand Prix series on Tuesday.

A total of 22 local riders turned out and Adam Traynor took victory on the night, winning all four races to finish with a 16-point maximum.

He was closely followed by Oscar Redmond and Ben Hindley, who both scored 15 points.
