IT is exciting times at Ladybridge FC after announcing their state-of-the-art facility is to be named the 'St John's Park' sportsground.

The Lostock club have had one of their most successful seasons with their senior team achieving promotion to Division One of the West Lancashire Football League, along with junior and women's sides winning silverware in their respective competitions.

Officials at the ambitious club want to rise through the ranks and they are delighted to finally call St John's their home.

Steve Hill, chairman, believes it is an exciting move forward for the club.

He said:"We have got a development line that we are working towards.

"As a club we are always trying to improve and naming the ground was another step.

"We have got floodlights going up at the ground and the demand to come and get involved and play here will be amazing.

"I think we are probably the only team in Bolton to have the 3G pitches and we will be able to get more sides interested in training here.

"This is a positive thing for the area and just hope it leads to more developments here."

Andy Holliday, committee member, added: "The decision to call it St Johns was because of the area we are in.

"There is a new development nearby and it is called St Johns.

"We want this so we can engage with the local community and we think it is right we have a name for our home.

"A number of names have been considered but it was decided to go with the local area."

Ladybridge started their pre-season preparations as Dave Walker ran his first get-together with the team last week.

The team finished runners-up in Division Two and were also finalists in the West Lancashire Challenge Cup final losing out to league winners Haslingden St Marys.

Ladybridge FC has opportunities currently for the Under 10s (year 5) age group to represent the club on both Saturday and Sundays at Section A and B levels.
