TURTON School are celebrating the success of one of their sporting teams.

The Year 9 district rounders tournament took place at Little Lever on Tuesday with eight schools entered into the competition.

During the group stages Turton started a little slowly on the batting side but their fielding skills helped them defeat Ladybridge and Sharples.

A tense match took place against Thornleigh in which Turton won by half a rounder with some excellent batting and fielding from both schools.

The final was between Turton and Little Lever and Turton managed to find another level with some outstanding rounders being played.

Excellent batting by Mia Lord, Jess Boardman, Rebecca McKenna and Elise Baxter meant that Turton gave Little Lever a hard target to beat.

Meanwhile there was also some superb bowling by Millie Sanders supported by outstanding fielders Carrie Ollerton, Safia Bayirli, Charlotte Williamson and Anais Baxter which limited Little Lever to only scoring 1½ to Turton’s 5½

PE Teacher Natalie Parry said “I am really impressed with the skill and determination the team have shown.

"They have practised hard and have been rewarded by being crowned champions of Bolton. I’m so proud of them all.

"Fielding is certainly a strength of the Turton team and this came into play when Little Lever were batting”.
