BOLTON sailors Alex Collins and Tony Critchley joined 26 other Supernova helms who travelled to a very windy Open Event at Carsington sailing club on June 7.

Both sailors left triumphant once again, with Collins winning the event outright and Critchley taking the prize for the first veteran overall.

The event marked the last of the run-ups leading to the Supernova National Championship to be held in Paignton, Devon over the weekend of June 20.

With 58 helms already signed up, it promises to be a great event with the fantastic sight of around 60 Supernovas battling it out for 10 races over three days.

The Supernova dinghy is going from strength to strength and this, the 19th year of the Association, features some great helms.

Meanwhile, the Supernova Association believe that Bolton sailors will be among the runners and riders.

In their promotional material they say: "Alex Collins is trained at the northern stronghold of Bolton, there is no limit to Alex's preferred wind strength.

"So far this year he's won at Bowmoor, Bolton, Attenborough and Carsington all in seriously windy conditions but has also won at the light wind venue of Combs for the past two years and is a true contender

"Meanwhile the The Critchley brothers (Tony and Mike) are probably outsiders for the overall win, but they will certainly be at the front.

"Bolton sailors all their lives, the brothers are competitive in all conditions. Chuck in a bit of sibling rivalry and you have two very fast sailors.

"Tony has been called 'the quick old guy at the front' and Mike won a race at last year's nationals. Both are notoriously difficult to pass, assuming you can catch them in the first place."

Collins is no stranger to the Your Sport supplement after he finished third in the Supernova national sailing competition in Aberdovey last year and Tony Critchley took the bragging rights over his brother finish seventh while Mike was 10th
