GARETH Hastie joined Howard Broadbent on five Bolton Golf Championship career titles when he beat Anthony Stirling in the final last night.

The Bolton Golf Club man was four holes up with two to play at Turton to join the legendary Broadbent on five wins and join him in second on the list of all-time winners behind 10-time winner Jack Taylor.

Hastie was never behind, taking an early lead when he showed his class as early as the second hole as Stirling hit a great tee shot to the green landing three yards from the pin but Hastie sunk a putt from over 20 feet to go two up.

Stirling battled back on the fourth to reduce Hastie's lead to one up thanks to a superb tee-shot as the leader watched as his shot agonisingly fell short off the hole.

The fifth and sixth were halved as both competitors battled it out.

Hastie was in a good position on the eighth but was just short and Stirling holed to square the game.

Harwood's Stirling was not fazed by the challenge of the four-time winner and despite a few missed shots held it together to keep the pressure on.

Hastie got his nose in front again to put him one up at the halfway point then went two up at the 10th.

The next three holes were halved before Hastie turned the screw with an eagle on 13th to go three up.

He made it four before victory was complete on the 16th hole.
