A BRADSHAW CC teenager showed no rustiness after a spell out from a broken toe by hitting his maiden century for the Rigby's side.

Jamie Legg, aged 14, stole the show for Bradshaw second team against Tonge when he scoring an unbeaten 103 including 14 fours in his 123-ball knock.

Proud dad Jonathan Legg said: "He was very steady at the crease hitting shots along the ground.

"There was a bit of a chance when he was in the 70s when it was dropped in the air but he stuck it out.

"He has been helped along by some of the senior players in the second team.

"Ryan Tierney also got a hundred and was very good encouraging him to get such a high score.

"His first goal was to get a 50 as he did not"

Legg has been on the books at the Rigbys since the age of eight and is one of a select group of talented players on their up-and-coming stars on the Bradshaw Academy.

Jonathan added: "He has been training as part of the Lancashire Under-14s set-up too and was coached by Paul Tebay and Amal Dalogoda at Bradshaw.

"The coaching is helping him to develop into a better player.

"He plays for the Bolton district team too.

"He would like to do as well as he can.

"Even though he has got a century we are going to keep his feet on the ground as in sport he could be out for a duck.

"Before his injury he was scoring a few 30s and 20s for the second team and hopefully he can score more runs."

Steve Dickinson, chairman of Bradshaw CC, said: "He batted fantastically all the way through the innings to 101 and it is a great achievement for the lad.

"He is only 14 and deserves all the credit to him for all the hard work he has put in.

"He has played for Lancashire Under-14s as a bowler but we see him as a bit of an all-rounder in the future.

"It shows that our cricket academy is working as some of the players have moved on to play for Lancashire and I think Paul (Tebay), Amal (Dalogoda) and Matty (Dewhurst) have played roles in their development as coaches."
